As a witness of several holiday interactions and meals, Mary trump brings unexpected humor and biting wit to some confounding and grim family events.
Mary recounts not sparing any little detail from Donald’s dwelling in the family spotlight. Too much and never enough takes the form of chronological biography with Donald Trump as the focal point. The Author gives enough attention to other family members to detail the mutual financial dealings and dynamics. As a clinical psychologist, Mary has extensively drawn from her skills and expertise to give inner family workings as a background for analyzing former Us president Donald trump without providing an outright diagnosis.
Part one: cruelty is the point
In this part, the book introduces the family patriarchs character, Fred trump and tries to elucidate how Trump’s treatment toward his children brought a long-lasting effect on their and their relationship. Based on recollections from family members, the Author diagnoses Fred as a highly functioning sociopath due to his nature of using and taking advantage of those around him for his good.
While observing the constant criticisms to his brother Fred Senior over shortcomings, Trump adapts his father’s nature and attitude to prevent the display of kindness, sadness and weaknesses. According to the authorFredd\s cruel influence led to Donald’s restricted access to a range of emotions. She describes Fred and Trump’s mother, Mary As a mentally and physically oppugned subservient mother and wife during her children’s constructive periods due to osteoporosis and Fred’s constant culmination of his wife and children. Her grandmother later revealed to Mary that she enjoyed a sense of relief when Fred Donald’s father sent Trump to military school at 13. Donald had begun being disobedient and belligerent towards the mother at that age.
Part two: wrong side of the tracks
This part chronicles Trump’s early career. Mary narrates that Fred Sr never achieved any fame that he deserved as business acumen; therefore, he was happy to see his son Donald play the public face while taking care of actual work through learning politics and dealing with business connections. Later Fred Sr started sidelining his eldest son Fred Jr in favor of Donald after unfairly blaming him for the collapse of large projects.
Due to this sidelining, Fred Jr decided to leave the family business and pursue a career as a commercial pilot. However, the entire Trump family denigrated Fred Junior’s career, pushing him to engage in issues like alcoholism in the 1970s, which led to Fred junior’s marriage and career failure. Eventually, Fred Trump Junior passed away at forty-two in 1981 due to a heart attack. He died in a hospital away from his family as his parents waited for his death from the hospital while at home.
During his death, his brother Donald was at a movie theater watching a film unbothered of his brother’s wellbeing.
Part three; the smoke and mirrors
This part explains how Donald struggled while operating his father’s business with no connection and knowledge that his father had; this was after his father’s experience waning. According to the Author, Donalt was an inept businessman. He only kept up his appearances because of his business associate’s unwillingness to tear the contract because they took Donald’s notoriety as an asset.
There is a point where Donald was forced to negotiate for a monthly allowance of $ 450 000 with his creditors. Continuing the bibliography, Mary also narrates how things on her side changed after Fred Junior’s death. In 199i. The family turned on her, depriving her of the necessities like cutting her health insurance and that of her brother leading to precarious conditions on William, her brother’s child.
Mary chose to settle by allowing the other family members to purchase her partnership of a family company in exchange for her brother’s insurance. An act that she now takes as undervaluation. Mary later learned of her family wealth’s value through acting as an anonymous source in a Pulitzer winning NewYork times investigation.
Part 4: The worst ever made investment
Here the book gives the Author’s view of the time when Trump launched a campaign to become the US president. Again drawing from her psychological skills, she claims that Fred Sr, her grandfather, was a frontline initiator to Trump’s power actors, allowing Donald’s bad instincts to serve their needs. Mary narrates that due to forcefully stopping Trump’s psychological development at an early age by his father, Trump is highly susceptible to manipulation by capable foreign and local actors.
There is the relevant context around her book being blocked, who it was about
The book revolves around Donald Trump, his ill deeds and, at large, the Trump family. In this book, Trump is presented as a villain. Too much but not enough is a kind of biography revealing the hidden secrets behind the Trump family’s wealth. Prior to its publication, the court partially blocked the book from publishing from the Trump family members claiming that it was against the deal they had signed according to the daily beast; Donald Trump discussed the possibility of taking court action against his niece mary.
As he reported to Axios, Mary had signed a non-disclosure agreement that covered every secret, so nobody should go against it. Therefore as per Trump, Mary was not allowed to write a book. At the same time, Robert Trump also filed a lawsuit trying to secure a preliminary injunction and restraining order to block the book’s publication using the signed NDA as a defense.
However, the case was dismissed by Judge Kelly peter of queens county surrogate court in new york due to lack of jurisdiction. After the dismissal of the hearing, Robert proceeded with the case to the general trial court of the New York supreme court Dutchess county. At the court, the judge, Greenwald Hal, ordered a temporary delay in the relapse of the book. With the temporary halt in the book’s release, he set a hearing on July ten to decide on the final judgments.
Alan Scheinkman reversed the low court order after finding that the publisher Simon and Schuster was not among the NDA party members. And therefore, this meant that Simon and Schutcher were not to be restrained from publishing the book. The publisher was not liable for prior pre-publication and restraint injunction based on the first amendment, ruling that the publisher could continue to publish the pending book on July 10.
Mary was left prohibited from book-selling activities while leaving the question of whether Mary had gone against the NDA consensus answered. Later in July 2020, Mary trump filed an affidavit that alleged that she was not bound by the Non disclosure agreement clause in the settlement contract for several reasons. One of the primary reasons was that the asset valuations contained in the settlement agreement were counterfeit.
Greenwald, on July 13, gave a ruling certifying Simon and Schuster a right to publish the book. And on the side of Mary, the judge could not stop the publication based on her contract with her publisher. According to the judge, it would have been moot to issue an order to stop publishing the already published and distributed book.
Moreover, the court found the case weak because the case was filed by Donald’s brother Robert, yet the book was about Donald himself. According to the justice system, only Donald Trump could file the case. Robert could as well have asked for monetary damages from Mary, but because of the ruling date, it was unsure if he actually intended to do so.
